Especially privileged people, non privileged people are far more accustomed to feeling all of this (fragile, uncertain, unstable) and thus don’t have to lie to themselves to fight off or through these feelings. But what you are really talking about is a panicked response to a loss of privilege…this is being experienced on a massive scale by white Americans. You paint Americans with a very broad brush and assume most are white and privileged. Not true. America was built on slavery and those slaves are black and brown, and we’re still here. We don’t do any of the craziness you write about. We are no less American than anyone else. Thank you very much.
