I appreciate this (if you’re white), if you’re black then you saying this is no big deal. Clearly it’s going to obvious to you as you’ve seen how this particular loop hole works.
The answers to racism (in America) because as you accurately point out it’s a worldwide phenomenon.
I think it starts here with honest discussion. One of the biggest problems we have here in America is that we’ve been given so much misinformation and silly, stupid sound bites around a very basic American mythology around race, that is simply this: White is good, and black is bad, and black and white? This still too bad.
So that American mythology is completely breaking down now (especially the last part as we become a nation full of swirly types). People who have benefited from the mythology (white people) are extremely uncomfortable/and or angry about the breakdown; and people who have been oppressed by the mythology (certainly black, and other nonwhites) are also becoming extremely uncomfortable/and or angry about the breakdown.
Soooooooo, we have to recognize that the mythology was a LIE. We have to go back and look at the truth, and in that we will find that the truth about race in America is far, far, far more complex and layered then that idiotic myth articulated above.
Once we really face the truth as a nation, (and only then) can we move forward.
But thanks for asking the question! It’s a really good question! I don’t think there are any easy answers, but I honestly believe that authentic dialogue is where it has to start.
