It is impossible to say what motivates people to do something as simple as casting a ballot, and while so many Trump supporters want to now distance, themselves from everything ugly and despicable about Trump, it’s impossible.
And the truth is, yes, more than half of the people in this country (and that’s a lot of people) do not like, nor do they trust, Trump supporters right now.
If you back someone who says and does horrible things, and then turn around and try to justify it, no one is going to look at you in the same way…ever. EVER. There will always be lingering doubts about the basic morality of you, no matter what kind of lofty explanations you offer, about why you did this or that.
Its much better, in my view, to just be altright. Own it. It’s honest, although clearly that’s a concept that has zero meaning for Trump, and therefore probably for his most ardent supporters.
Yes it is true. Trump was supported by many who probably do not really support the totality of him. But you can’t really have that cake and eat it too. It just doesn’t work that way.
Here we are. Half of the country really doesn’t like the other at this point and time in history. All the moderate pleas for compassion and understanding are largely unheard. All the right “fuck you we won” posturing, is really riling up more extreme left factions — and people are readying up for civil war. It is what it is.
