Two things stand out. First, even though Americans on average, and Republicans in particular, have become more negative about #MeToo over the past year, the change among this particular group is spectacular (chart). Second, a generational gap now yawns between Republican women who are over 65 and those under 30, the cohort least hostile to #MeToo within the Republican Party.
It’s not surprising…these older women don’t have to worry about being harassed, generally no one is going to sexually harass older women. But certainly they do feel they have to worry about their significant other being targeted for harassment (which would affect them).
Younger women get harassed incessantly. And even if they are Republicans, I’m guessing they don’t like it.
Basically these older women, are trying to insist that these younger women “take one for the team.” It’s selfish and sick on the part of these older women.
