This is an amazing sentence. Captures this time in history perfectly. This was refreshing…because I have been wondering…oh about since 2000 really, what do conservatives stand for? Like really…what are the principals? What is the foundation? From the outside looking in it looks like:
1. “fiscal conservatism”- code word for always side with the very wealthy or or most succinctly greed — aggressive greed at that. There is a nod to financial responsibility, but to me that is laughable, when you look at how this country has spent money for the last 100 years or so. Fiscal conservative means spend no money on anything desired or requested by “other” or even some of our own.
2. Some substantive to vapid Jesus freaking (it runs the gamut)
3. Hatred of other, (it used to be subtle — now it’s blatant) hate or at least extreme distrust of anything not white male.
Now out of these three, number 2- as I said, has some substance, in some subsets, but even they (the ones with substance) can pretty easily delve into number 3, which is pretty hypocritical.
But with 2, at one point, there was a guiding moral base, that has been completely abandoned, at this point. Why? I think you hit the nail on the head with that sentence. Family values…what happened to those? Meh…those can be completely thrown out the window, in this day and age, apparently.
Anyway, (and I definitely mean this as a compliment, though you probably won’t see it as such,) you seem like a conservative who stands for something, who has some substance, could identify some principals, something to stand for. I have encountered that rarely. I have not seen that much from prominent conservatives in my adult life time..and I’m kinda old. But to be fair, it’s not as if I go out of my way to look for it.
