Responding to a statement with a barrage of insulting labels is simply a conversation stopper…it’s schoolkid playground bully banter and thrives on sparking angry responses…for good and constructive dialog it should simply be ignored.
True. For some people, these are the only sorts of debating tools in their repertoire, and they resort to that out of frustration from their inability to rely upon reason and logic. But what I find troubling is that those with an arsenal of well developed debating tools are resorting to this as well. It’s become a thing. That’s problematic because it degrades all the thinking. This phenom has infected clear thinking and reason like a virus. I really fear we are living through an attack on reason and logic.
