Little survival is to exist, but not really to live. To be reduced to the animal self. In the desperate battle for the basics, to give up one’s dignity, truth, humanity. To fail to love, in any way. To attack one’s neighbor to defend one’s position, and so to give up what is priceless, the possibility of grace and meaning and freedom in this little life.
